We are searching for at least two adoptees who were born in southern New Jersey from approximately 1975-1977. These individuals, who would now be in their 40’s, were adopted through the firm Kent, Grayer & Rosenberg in Willingboro, NJ (Burlington County.) Specifically, through Edward Kent, an attorney from this firm.
We are also searching for women who placed a newborn for adoption during this same time period through this firm. The birth mothers were likely from Camden County, Burlington County, or possibly other neighboring counties. At least one of the birth mothers was living in Burlington Township, New Jersey at the time. All of the adoptions were privately arranged through this firm.
As of today, we know of three newborn adoptions, including Michelle’s, that were arranged by Edward Kent. Michelle was placed in a home in Berlin on December 4, 1976, and we believe the other two adoptees were placed in homes in Cherry Hill sometime between December 1976 and May 1977. All three adoptions were part of a 1978 indictment against Kent for illegally arranging newborn adoptions (State v. Kent.) You can also read some of the newspaper articles about the case here.
Currently, we do not know the gender or race of any of the adoptees involved. At least one of the adoptees was born in May 1977, possibly around May 1st. We do not know when the third adoptee was born, but we believe he/she was also born in early 1977 (between January 1977 and May 1977.) There is also a possibility that other adoptions took place outside of this time frame (likely earlier rather than later) but were not included in the indictment. We would love to hear from these individuals as well, even if your adoption was not part of the 1978 indictment.
Purpose: We are hoping to connect with others who were adopted (or placed a child for adoption) through this firm. Michelle’s adoption was extremely flawed and we’re hoping to communicate with others included in the indictment to learn more about his adoption procedures, background screenings of potential adoptive parents, communication, fees, and overall outcomes for the adoptions he arranged.
