Fundraiser for Adoptees Connect, Inc.

Hi everyone,

My 45th birthday is on November 30th. Until a few years ago, my birthday was just another day and really didn’t hold too much meaning for me.

Since I found out I am adopted in 2017, my birthday has become a source of many new emotions. It was the day I was born to my amazing mom and dad, Hollie and Rick. But it was also the beginning of the process of me being separated from them. I often think about how they must have felt every November 30th for the 40 years prior to our reunion and how difficult it must have been for them. I think back to many of my birthdays over the years, and it disturbs me to know that while I was blissfully unaware of the truth, my parents were just a few miles away probably having a pretty bad day. That breaks my heart.

Since my discovery, I’ve made celebrating my birthday a big deal. I go out, party and celebrate the life I have been given and try not to take anything for granted. Last year was much more low-key due to the pandemic, but this year will be almost back to pre-pandemic levels. (lol!)

If my family’s story has moved you or you have related to it in some way, I ask you to consider donating to a great organization called Adoptees Connect. It’s a great resource for all adult adoptees and is constantly growing. Despite all the beautiful and inspirational stories posted on social media about adoption, the reality is that adoption is complicated. Some have great outcomes. Some do not. Most are somewhere in the middle. We need to support ALL adult adoptees in their journey even if their story doesn’t fit the “adoption is beautiful” narrative.

Adoptees Connect is a safe space for all adult adoptees to communicate, learn, and access helpful resources. They also have in-person meetings all over the US.

If you are able to contribute to this organization, it would mean a lot to me. Thank you to everyone for your continued support and love over the past few years!
